Tillandsia - NOID ‘APD014’

Description: Tillandsia NOID ‘APD014’ as the name suggests is a plant with No Identification. From the plants it was located with in the shadehouse the source is most likely from Chris Vale, circa 2017. However as the tag has been lost this can’t be said for sure. It is quite similar in appearance to T. Riohondoensis, however it is much larger in size, with a lot more foliage. Possibly a large clone, or Hybrid of T. Riohondoensis? An interesting point about this plant is that it is slightly caulescent, and has produced pups half way up the stem (see last 3 images), rather than from the base. It has been given a code ‘APD014’ as it is quite a nice looking plant and we may be able to find the correct ID in future. 

Position: They should receive bright, indirect sunlight. Indoors, an east or west facing window area is ideal. Outdoors under partially shaded conditions is fine but in the colder states protection from frost is required, so an undercover or indoors area is more appropriate. 

Watering: As a general rule, a plant in a hot position will require watering every 2-3 days. In a dark, humid environment watering once per week can often be adequate. This can be achieved by misting or dunking the plant. If outdoors, a hose can be used. When dunking a plant, leave submerged in a bowl of water for 10-20 minutes before shaking off excess water. Air plants love to dry out completely between each watering and must never have water sitting at their base as this will cause the plant to rot.
