Our beautiful soapstone is handmade in Kisii, Kenya. Stone sculptures have been carved in Kisii for over 60 years. It is soft and varies in colour from white to rose and even grey. Carvers work in small groups with each group specialising in certain carvings.
The soft soapstone is firstly sawn and chopped into rough shapes, then the artists carve the detail in the stone, before it is rubbed down with water and then hand painted in beautiful designs. The products are Fair Trade and your purchase of these sculptures help provide a stable income and standard of living for the artists and their families.
